Alicia is a New Zealand-qualified solicitor with six years’ experience in commercial litigation. She specialises in commercial litigation and insolvency, with particular expertise in director and shareholder disputes, claims against directors, and complex urgent relief.
She regularly acts in technically demanding commercial matters, often involving multi-jurisdictional elements, and is experienced in obtaining and resisting urgent interim relief including freezing orders, disclosure, imaging and passport orders in the London High Court.
Alicia began her career building a strong background in insurance litigation (acting for policyholders), contentious trust disputes, professional negligence claims, and complex construction disputes. She takes a holistic and practical approach to disputes, recognising not only the legal complexities but also the wider commercial and personal impact on companies, businesses, and individuals.
Alicia is driven by a strong sense of justice and is committed to standing up for clients facing unfairness, offering robust yet pragmatic advocacy.
Recent experience includes:
- Acted for a respondent to claims in wrongful trading, misfeasant trading and misfeasance in Re BHS Group Ltd ([2022] EWHC 2205 (Ch); [2024] EWHC 1417 (Ch)) (one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases for 2023) where the complex insolvency proceedings (and what is thought to be the largest ever wrongful trading claim: [2024] EWHC 1417 (Ch)) arose out of the collapse of the BHS group of companies, once a major presence on the British high street.
- Acted for the applicant in Re Valorem Holdings Ltd [2023] EWHC 2625 (Ch); [2024] B.C.C. 1, in successfully obtaining urgent ex-parte relief in support of a s.994 unfair prejudice petition, including orders for the removal and appointment of directors, and delivery up, imaging and passport orders. The case involved the ownership and control of a leading perfume brand, where the applicant obtained (for what is believed to be the first time in England and Wales) an injunction removing a director from the board without notice in circumstances where a breach of Russian trading sanctions was alleged.
- Successfully obtained a suspended committal order for contempt of Court in the London High Court against a defaulting judgment debtor who was ultimately committed to a period of imprisonment for breach of the order.
- Regularly acted for liquidators and creditors in insolvency proceedings in the New Zealand High Court at Auckland.
